his fists. [2206] He loses balance, clutches
on to the ladder. [2207] He starts to get
down, stops.

Clov

[2208] There's one thing I'll never understand.

explain that to me?

Hamm

[2212] No... [2213] Perhaps it's pity compassion. [2214] (Pause.)
