ESTRAGON

[2922] Take it!

VLADIMIR

[2923] Come to my arms!

ESTRAGON

[2924] Your arms?

VLADIMIR

[2926] My breast!

ESTRAGON

[2927] Here Off we go!

[2928] (They embrace. [2928|001] They separate. [2929] Silence)

VLADIMIR

[2930] How time flies when one has fun!

[2931] (Silence)

ESTRAGON

[2932] What do we do now?

VLADIMIR

[2933] While waiting.

ESTRAGON

[2934] While waiting.

[2935] (Silence)

VLADIMIR

[2936] We could do our exercises.

ESTRAGON

[2937] Our movements.

VLADIMIR

[2938] Our elevations.

ESTRAGON

[2939] Our relaxations.

VLADIMIR

[2940] Our elongations.

ESTRAGON

[2941] Our relaxations.

VLADIMIR

[2942] To warm us up.

ESTRAGON

[2943] To calm us down.

VLADIMIR

[2944] Off we go.

[2945] (VLADIMIR hops from one foot to the other. [2946] ESTRAGON imitates him)

ESTRAGON

[2947] (Stopping) [2948] That's enough. [2949] I'm tired.

VLADIMIR

[2950] (Stopping) [2951] We're not in form. [2952] What about a little deep breathing?

ESTRAGON

[2953] I'm tired breathing.

VLADIMIR

[2954] You're right. [2955] (pause) [2956] Let's just do the tree, for our balance.

[p. 79r]

ESTRAGON

[2957] The tree?

[2958] (VLADIMIR does the tree, staggering about on one leg)

VLADIMIR

[2959] (Stopping) [2960] Your turn.

[2961] (ESTRAGON does the tree, staggers)

ESTRAGON

[2962] Do you think God sees me?

VLADIMIR

[2963] You must close your eyes.

[2964] (ESTRAGON closes his eyes, staggers worse)

ESTRAGON

[2965] (Stopping, brandishing his fists, at the top of his voice)

[2966] God have pity on me!

VLADIMIR

[2967] (Vexed) [2968] And me?

ESTRAGON

[2969] (As before) [2970] On me! [2971] On me! [2972] Pity! [2973] On me!

[2974] (Enter POZZO (now blind) and LUCKY. [2976] LUCKY burdened as before. [2977] Rope as before, but much shorter, so that Pozzo may follow more easily. [2978] LUCKY wearing a different hat. [2979] At the sight of Vladimir and Estragon he stops. [2980] POZZO, continuing on his way, bumps into him)

VLADIMIR

[2980|001] Gogo!

POZZO

[2982] (Clutching on to Lucky who totters) [2983] What is it? [2984] Who is it?

[2985] (LUCKY falls, drops everything and brings down Pozzo with him. [2986] They remain stretched out motionless among the scattered baggage)

ESTRAGON

[2987] Is it Godot?

VLADIMIR

[2988] At last! [2989] (he goes towards the heap) [2990] Reinforcements at last!

POZZO

[2992] Help!

ESTRAGON

[2993] Is it Godot?

VLADIMIR

[2994] We were beginning to weaken. [2995] Now we're sure to see it the evening out.

POZZO

[2996] Help!

[p. 80r]

ESTRAGON

[2997] Do you hear him?

VLADIMIR

[2998] We're no longer alone, waiting for the night, waiting for Godot, waiting for...waiting. [2999] All evening we have struggled, unassisted. [3000] Now it's over. [3001] It's already to-morrow.

POZZO

[3003] Help!

VLADIMIR

[3004] Time flows again already. [3005] The sun will set, the moon will rise, and we'll away...from here.

POZZO

[3008] Pity!

VLADIMIR

[3009] Poor Pozzo!

ESTRAGON

[3010] I knew it was him.

VLADIMIR

[3011] Who?

ESTRAGON

[3012] Godot.

VLADIMIR

[3013] But it's not Godot.

ESTRAGON

[3014] It's not Godot?

VLADIMIR

[3015] It's not Godot.

ESTRAGON

[3016] Then who is it?

VLADIMIR

[3017] It's Pozzo.

POZZO

[3018] Here! [3019] Here! [3020] Help me up!

VLADIMIR

[3021] He can't get up.

ESTRAGON

[3022] Let's go.

VLADIMIR

[3023] We can't.

ESTRAGON

[3024] Why not?

VLADIMIR

[3025] We're waiting for Godot.

ESTRAGON

[3026] Ah!

VLADIMIR

[3027] Perhaps he has another bone for you.

ESTRAGON

[3028] Bone?

VLADIMIR

[3029] Chicken. Stops him [3030] Do you not remember?

ESTRAGON

[3031] Was he the one It was him?

[p. 81r]

VLADIMIR

[3032] Yes.

ESTRAGON

[3033] Ask him.

VLADIMIR

[3034] Perhaps we should help him first.

ESTRAGON

[3035] To do what?

VLADIMIR

[3036] To get up.

ESTRAGON

[3037] He can't get up?

VLADIMIR

[3038] He wants to get up.

ESTRAGON

[3039] Then let him get up.

VLADIMIR

[3040] He can't.

ESTRAGON

[3041] Why not?

VLADIMIR

[3042] I don't know.

[3043] (POZZO writhes, groans, beats the ground with his fists)

ESTRAGON

[3044] We should ask him for the bone first. [3045] Then if he refuses we'll leave him there.

VLADIMIR

[3046] You mean we have him at our mercy?

ESTRAGON

[3047] Yes.

VLADIMIR

[3048] And that we should subordinate our good offices to certain conditions?

ESTRAGON

[3049] Yes.

VLADIMIR

[3050] That seems intelligent all right. [3051] But there's one thing I'm afraid of.

POZZO

[3051|001] Help!

ESTRAGON

[3052] What's that? ?

VLADIMIR

[3053] That Lucky might get going all of a sudden. [3054] Then we'd be banjaxed.

ESTRAGON

[3055] Lucky?

VLADIMIR

[3056] He's the one that went for you yesterday.

ESTRAGON

[3057] I tell you there was ten of them.

VLADIMIR

[3058] No, before that, the one that kicked you.
